World Club Rankings - Top 25 - Final 2022-23

Welcome to the final weekly edition of World Club Rankings’ Top 25 Football Clubs in the World.  We will continue to bring features during the summer, but will not have another current weekly ranking until our pre-season rankings come out in early August.

To the surprise of very few, Manchester City completed the first treble in English football since the 1998-99 season with a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.  This was City’s first such title and they promise to threaten for more in the coming years.  It marked the end of a great season and left them as the unanimous choice for the number one club in the world.

With so little taking place other than that match, there is no surprise that there is little change from the previous week’s rankings, but there were some.  Both Inter Milan and Palmeiras (who are still in action) moved around a bit in the individual rankings of the sites that we use to calculate our rankings, and as a result, many clubs picked up or dropped a point here or there and this made for minor changes in this week’s rankings.  The most noticeable change is Tottenham moving out of the rankings to make room for Chelsea, who switch places as the last team in and the first team out of the Top 25.

All of the rankings are below.  If you don’t like the list, please feel free to check out our methodology page, which includes links to all of the source data we are using.

1.  Manchester City (Eng) (125 pts) (5 first place votes) (LW 1) - In what cannot be considered much of a surprise, Manchester City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 on Saturday night to win their first UEFA Champions League title.  They perhaps did not dominate as much as many had expected, but that’s not really what’s important.  What is improvement is that they proved once and for all that they are the best football in the club in the world and it’s hard to see how anybody could dispute that fact.

2.  Bayern Munich (Ger) (118 pts) (LW 2) - Season Completed

3.  Real Madrid (Esp) (110 pts) (LW 4) -Season Completed

4. Liverpool (Eng) (110 pts) (LW 3) -Season Completed

5.  Arsenal (Eng) (98 points) (LW 5) - Season Completed

6.  Napoli (Ita) (97 pts) (LW 6) - Season Completed

7.  Barcelona (Esp) (90 points) (LW 8) - Season Completed

8. Inter Milan (Ita) (88 pts) (LW 7) - Inter put up a good fight and had some opportunities in the UEFA Champions League final over the weekend.  There’s certainly no shame in losing to Manchester City and it was quite an accomplishment making it to the final.  Even with the loss, Internazionale has qualified for a trip to next season’s UCL and a chance to take things one step further.

9.  Borussia Dortmund (Ger) (76 pts) (LW 10) - Season Completed

10.  Manchester United (Eng) (75 pts) (LW 9) - Season Completed
